Canadian Hospital Specialities (CHS): A Premier Partner in the Canadian Healthcare Market

Founded in 1967 as a medical device distributor, Canadian Hospital Specialties (CHS) was born. Though perseverance and a customer first approach, the company rapidly grew as a specialty distributor and in 1989, CHS established a presence as a medical device manufacturer with the acquisition of Benlan Inc. CHS has grown to become Canada’s preeminent manufacturer and supplier of single use kits and trays for the hospital market. This includes basic kits, such as IV Start and Suture Removal Kits, and more advanced trays, like Anesthesia and Thoracentesis Trays. CHS also has an expansive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business with customers in Canada, US, South America, and Europe.

CHS is proud to employ more than 300 Canadians, the majority of which are located at their manufacturing facility in Oakville, Ontario.

Currently, this first-class manufacturing facility has four Environmentally Controlled Rooms (ECR’s).  Each of the rooms is equipped with state-of-the-art automated assembly and packaging equipment, along with highly trained employees for manual processes that cannot be automated.

CHS services most hospitals in Canada with life-saving products, including more than 1000 unique kits, trays, and extruded products under their self-manufactured Med-Rx brand.

Their success is due to a willingness to listen to their customers and work with them to solve unique challenges so that together, they can support excellent patient care. Their ability to customize products with relatively small volume requirements sets CHS apart from the competition.  In 2020, CHS was able to pivot manufacturing capabilities to produce COVID test kits and supply PPE to help frontline workers and patients manage COVID-19.
