Figured Vortex

Figured Vortex is born from a fascination with unseen forces and kinetic energy. I wanted to sculpt a moment of pure, centripetal pull, freezing a fluid motion within a solid medium.

My approach to art is heavily rooted in the precision and structural mindset of engineering, but my hands crave the warmth and unpredictability of natural materials. This piece is a dialogue between those two worlds. After establishing the initial parametric geometry, I spent hours hand-shaping the crests and valleys, allowing the natural topography of the wood grain to dictate the final, undulating forms. The irregular boundary breaks away from traditional rectangular framing, letting the sculpture feel alive and in motion on the wall.
