The FiftyNiner

The FiftyNiner

The FiftyNiner is my take on the highly desired P.A.F. Humbucker as used in the sunburst Les Paul Standard from 1957-1960. We wind and build the FiftyNiners with ’50’s spec butyrate bobbins, Alnico bar magnets, long-leg Nickel Silver baseplates, Steel polescrews and slugs, maple spacers and braided hookup wire. Each FiftyNiner pickup is handwound (machine turns the bobbin, coil wire is hand-fed and hand-tensioned) using vintage spec plain enamel coil wire. We build every FiftyNiner with a passion for guitar and love of great tone.

The end result is a rewarding and highly versatile set of pickups that don't colour the character of your guitar, giving you a pure and 3D-like tone where the lows are warm and mids are right where you want them without sacrificing treble and clarity. This "3D" quality is more evident in the more open sounding unpotted versions. If you play with a lot of gain, get the lightly potted version to keep feedback at bay. We have full confidence you’ll absolutely love the FiftyNiners. We’ve sold and shipped out FiftyNiners to happy customers all over the globe including coast to coast within Canada, the United States and Japan!

The FiftyNiner Custom comes in four versions: Custom (standard wind), Custom Plus (more turns) and Custom LT (less turns). Finally, the flagship - Vintage Custom is our favoured spec with aged raw nickel covers and polescrews.
