GOLESTAN TIMBER ARTS

I am a Thornhill/Markham-based sculptural wood artist and civil engineer exploring the tension between digital precision and the fluid, unpredictable nature of raw timber.
I create one-of-a-kind sculptures from natural hardwoods. My process begins in the digital realm, where I develop complex geometries using 3D modeling and CNC machining to establish a rigid foundation. From there, I transition to traditional hand-carving, shaping and refining each piece in direct response to the wood’s unique grain, resistance, and character.
This dialogue between engineering control and material intuition is the heart of my practice. I view wood as one of the rarest materials in the known universe—an organic substance formed under conditions that exist only on Earth. My work seeks to honor that singularity, creating pieces where technology yields to touch, and precision gives way to imperfection.
