I'm a queer painter hailing from Toronto. As an avid hiker, camper, and bike-packer, most of the inspiration for my work comes from nature. I like to make a point of featuring the aspects of nature that exhibit inherent queerness. Growing up in the 90s especially it was common to hear that the way we love or identify is "against nature," so I have made a point of featuring aspects of nature that exhibit what are commonly considered to be queer tendencies by humans. From gender-changing frogs to hermaphroditic snails, same-sex mated whales, and of course, fungus which can have up to 36,000 different sexes. I view my art as a subtle rebellion against what society has deemed to be the norm, by drawing attention to how queerness in nature is abundant, beautiful, and flourishing.
I also believe that art should be accessible to everyone, so I try to create pieces in a variety of sizes and mediums, as well as prints that hit a wide price range so anyone can feel like they can own a piece of art they connect with.
