Out of the Vase II
Inspired by the elegance of Delftware, this cyanotype blends the art of floral arrangement with the graceful flow of the vase and the deep, rich hue of cyanotype blue. To create this piece, I carefully sorted and arranged all my tiny dried botanicals, meticulously placing each one. While the cyanotype process itself is relatively quick, the preparation is far more time-consuming. Collecting, drying, pressing, and storing the florals, as well as painting the cyanotype chemicals and arranging the botanicals, all require significant effort.
Starting with real botanicals that I have harvested, dried, and pressed throughout the seasons; the original cyanotype is hand-made using sunlight, photographic chemicals, and developed in a water bath.
This giclée print is a reproduction of the original cyanotype. Starting with real botanicals that I have harvested, dried, and pressed throughout the seasons; the original cyanotype is hand-made using sunlight, photographic chemicals, and developed in a water bath.
About Cyanotype:
The cyanotype is a photographic process that produces a Prussian blue monochrome print. Developed in 1842, this technique utilizes a photosensitive solution that reacts to sunlight exposure. Plants act as UV shields, leaving their impressions on the paper. Each cyanotype print is unique, as variations in weather conditions or the distribution of the photosensitive solution can affect the shades of blue and imperfections, adding to the charm of this artisanal printing technique.
